What is .org?
.org was one of the original six TLDs in 1985, intended for organizations that didn’t fit the commercial or network categories. Operated by Public Interest Registry (PIR), a nonprofit affiliated with the Internet Society.
Eligibility
Open to anyone — there’s no actual nonprofit verification — but the cultural association with non-profits + civic projects + open-source is strong enough that commercial use of .org can read awkward.
