Local presence requirement
A registry rule requiring the registrant to have an address (or representative) in a specific country or region. Common for ccTLDs (.ca needs Canada nexus, .ai needs AI Domain Registration Limited).
How it’s enforced
The registry checks the WHOIS address against allowed countries; some require an admin contact in the right jurisdiction. Local-presence services (offered by registrars) provide a proxy address for foreign registrants.
Consequences of fake addresses
False WHOIS data is grounds for the registry to suspend or delete the domain — regardless of how much was paid for it.
