Escrow Stage Lifecycle
Five distinct stages an Escrow.com transaction passes through after auction close: Awaiting Buyer, In Escrow, Funds Approved, Complete, Disbursed.
Stages
- Awaiting Buyer — auction ended, buyer hasn’t yet clicked Pay Escrow. The 14-day Non-Paying-Bidder clock is ticking.
- In Escrow — buyer initiated the Escrow.com transaction. NPB clock pauses (delay is on Escrow.com’s review queue, not the buyer).
- Funds Approved — Escrow.com confirmed the payment. Time to start the domain transfer.
- Complete — domain transferred and accepted by buyer; inspection period elapsed.
- Disbursed — seller payout released by Escrow.com.
Failure paths
Escrow can decline payment (card issue, KYC fail on their side, sanctions hit, abandoned checkout). When that happens we receive a payment_rejected or cancel webhook, automatically reset the listing to Available, and notify both seller + buyer. Worst case (webhook lost): the NPB sweep forfeits at day 14.
